How Is Whiskey Produced?
In short, this is a fermented drink, usually made from the grain of barley. However, it can also come from corn, rye, or wheat. The production process is simple and takes little time (on average, 3 days). However, whiskey needs to have a time of maturation. During this period, the drink must be reserved in a barrel (usually oak) to maintain the flavor and aroma. A curiosity that few people know is that at least 60% of the whiskey flavor is influenced by the type of barrel in which it is stored.
Is Whiskey Different From Bourbon?
All Bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is Bourbon. Bourbon is a North American version of the drink. It is made with corn grains and has a specific recipe. Initially, it was produced in Kentucky, but nowadays, it is made in several regions.
What types of drinks exist?
There are four types: Irish, American, Scottish, and Japanese.
– Irish: Malted grains are used to prepare this type of drink. Maturation, in turn, takes place in oak barrels and lasts, on average, 3 years. Usually, on the label, the spelling used is “whiskey.”
– Americano: there are, in all, 5 variations of the drink produced by the Americans (Bourbon, Straight Bourbon, Blended Bourbon, Rye, and Tennessee).
– Scotch, also called scotch, is one of the most famous drink types. The scotch recipe is protected by law, and only products made in the country can receive this denomination.
– Japanese: It is the least popular type of whiskey and has only gained popularity in the last decade. The production method is similar to Scottish.
